Speed
(but without Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves or Dennis Hopper)
Being in New York has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the main advantages is that the hot dogs here are real ones! I live in France and over there it is quite difficult to find a real hot dog: bun, mustard, relish and stuff.
Among the disadvantages, the one that I find most annoying is the speed.
First of all let me give you some context for a better understanding of what I am about to say. I was born and lived in Quito (Ecuador), which is a city where taking the time to smell the roses is not an issue. After that, I spent the other half of my life in Lyon (France) which is a city that you may not consider as “small”, but it is neither the big oversized metropolis that Paris has become. And by the way I have never lived in Paris.
I am complaining about the speed of New York because the 10 millon people (or more) that live here have a thing for always keeping themselves in fast motion. On the street, in the parks, supermarkets and almost everywhere, you should go fast because otherwise it is not fast enough.
Eventually, the only moment where everything stops is when you get to see the city from far away. And only at that moment New York becomes a place which I could define as serene.
Searching for this serene state has cost me a great deal of effort like waking up at three o’clock in the morning, being freezing cold, running with a lot of stuff on my back and such and such, but all those things my dear reader, that is another story…….
